Chapel Hill was recently named by Money Magazine as one of the "Best Places to have it all."
Chapel Hill, NC is situated in the middle of the state, halfway between the Blue Ridge
Mountains and the Atlantic Ocean. It is in close proximity to Raleigh and Durham
which collectively makeup the "Research Triangle." Cisco Systems, the technology
giant, has a presence within the research triangle along with many other
multinationals.
"The Research Triangle" has enjoyed an international reputation for their scientific
work. Research is a major industry for the residents of Chapel Hill and its
surrounding communities. This industry is responsible for many area jobs and
revenues. It is a major part of their economic foundation.
The University of North Carolina is a high-profile school and valued member of
the Chapel Hill community. It has become one of the most prestigious schools in
the country and attracts students from all over the world. This brings an added
element of cultural diversity to an area rich in southern history. UNC has developed
perhaps the best collegiate basketball program in the country. They've won at least
2 National Championships over the past two decades. Naturally, they bring a lot of
notoriety and revenues to the area.
Chapel Hill is a great place to raise a family. The people of Chapel Hill live up
to the South's reputation for being hospitable and friendly. Here, people take a
great deal of pride in their community and it shows. You will find clean streets,
manicured lawns, and excellent test scores throughout the school system.
As today's youth grow up they will not be forced to look elsewhere for opportunity.
Given the options for higher learning and career possibilities thereafter, Chapel Hill
makes a pretty compelling argument for staying in the area keeping the family close
for multiple generations.
Like most of the country, real estate prices have appreciated a bit here over the
last 5 years. Home owner's who have invested in the community have seen a nice
return on their investments.
The local culture here is a blend between the Old South and the high-technology
present. Although many tourists come to experience and learn of the historic aspects
of the area, they also come to see what's new in this technology driven community.
UNC alumni also frequent the area whether the occasion be a rival basketball game,
or to discuss the direction of the University. Either way Chapel Hill is the common
denominator.
The people here are active and fitness-oriented. Some of the local activities
include golfing, tennis, horseback riding, biking, hiking, and camping. Remember
Chapel Hill sits on a wooded piedmont just beneath the Blue Ridge Mountains and
lends itself perfectly to these activities.
Climate here for the most part is fairly mild although on any given winter day,
the thermometer could hit freezing. And, of course, in the summer it will
occasionally get "hot." Other than those exceptions, the days in Chapel Hill are
wonderfully inviting.
Chapel Hill also offers an affordable way of life. The cost of living in Chapel
Hill is below the national average. The median household income is $42,300.
The median home value in Chapel Hill is $275,000. Prices being what they are,
there is a way for the young family to establish themselves as home owners.
Chapel Hill is a wonderful community that welcomes its newcomers. If you are thinking of moving into the
area, feel free to select a "free relocation package."
